The primary mission of the Veterans Foundation is to timely disburse grant assistance from the Foundation’s available funds to veterans with an Honorable or General Discharge Under Honorable Conditions or their surviving spouses who are Citrus County residents for short term emergency expenses upon verification of eligibility and need by the Citrus County Veterans Service Office Manager and approval by a majority of the Foundation’s board of directors. The Citrus County Veterans Coalition operates a food pantry located at 1081 N. Paul Street (one mile south Hernando off of Highway 41). All honorably discharged veterans or their surviving spouses may collect food items (typically 35 to 40 pounds of food) once per month. Veterans may also receive help with utility bills or home repairs.

Bridge 4 Veterans provides short-term housing to Veterans-in-need at their location in Homosassa. The home can accomodate up to 10 Veterans. Upon entry, Bridge 4 Veterans works with the individual to help them obtain permanent housing through St. Vincent de Paul Cares or HUD-VASH.

SVdP CARES was first funded in 2012 by the US Department of Veteran Affairs to provide services for Veterans in Pinellas County and serves thousands of homeless and at-risk Veterans each year. Today, SVdP CARES serves Veterans in 19 counties throughout Florida including Citrus County. Black Diamond Foundation funding is used to help keep veterans from losing their homes and to help purchase household goods when veterans are rehoused. Learn more.
